Jewelry

How do you all feel about ear cuffs? This evening for some odd reason I decided to look some up just to see what's out there and there are a few I actually like! Never in a million years would I have considered myself an ear cuff kinda girl. But here I am.

Now...I have come across quite a few that are just out of my realm like the dragon ones for example. There are so many available I am guessing they are quite popular? Here is a picture of a dragon cuff I found entertaining.

Here are a few I like

They aren't expensive so one of these may end up in my mail box :)

Chaos Part Deux

Hello friends. Last night I felt like I got about 3 hours of sleep total. Here's the equation: 1 part late bed time + 1 part fire alarm. Yes, you read correctly...FIRE ALARM. It went off again last night at approximately 4am. I definitely checked the time to make sure that someone wasn't pulling some kind of annoying prank. If you recall last time I was frantic, adrenaline fueled and running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. This time, however, I felt prepared so it took us about half the time to get out of the apartment with Olive in tow. We went straight for the couch where she hid last time and she was under there again. We both manned our posts at either end of the couch and I was able to grab her. Success. Despite our quick exit I was still pissed that the alarm was going off yet again in the middle of the night. Was there a fire? No.  If there was an actual emergency I would be very grateful for those blasted ear piercing alarms. But until then, not a fan.

Post Turkey Day

Thanksgiving was great this year! I hosted my first Thanksgiving/holiday at my apartment. We were indeed packed into my little apartment like sardines but it was great to be able to cook for my family and have them stay here. (Next year hopefully we will have a bigger place! 5 people + 1 bathroom does not equal a positive equation in this case) I made all of the traditional thanksgiving food with the help of my dear madre and it went so smoothly and the food turned out great. How do I know that you ask? Well...Thanksgiving is my dad's favorite meal EVER and he is very picky when it comes to this meal. He had 3 plates Thursday night and 3 plates the next day of leftovers. I did try a new side that I really enjoyed and will make again for any occasion...butternut squash caponata.
Today I am making turkey soup with the leftover turkey. My favorite! I will add pictures later when I get them uploaded onto my computer. Unfortunately I didn't get that many because I was pretty busy. Dang.

Yelp Reviews

I don't know if you have seen these real Yelp reviews acted out but they are HILARIOUS. Seriously, my new favorite thing. Here are my favorites:

I am writing from our brand new computer. I don't know if I can accurately express how happy I am that I have a fully functioning computer that doesn't freeze up every 5 minutes, doesn't freak out when I want to run 2 programs at once and is virus free. Also a plus it came with a built in camera.
Super excited that my family is coming up for Thanksgiving and I will be cooking my first holiday meal EVER. I am actually that old? When did I become an adult that is old enough to host a holiday at my own place?? Yikes. Hello reality check.
The rain finally decided to show up here (a heavy rain that is). We have had such a dry fall that I was beginning to get a little worried because that's so not the norm.  And it's awfully chilly. I am trying really hard not to run the heater constantly because I don't want a surprise 200 dollar electric bill. Everything in our house is electric. No gas at all. :/
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to share from this weekend...we stayed inside all weekend for the most part.
Also on a side note, 2 of my girlfriends got engaged in the past couple days! Love is in the air!

Hiatus

Hello folks.
I have been away for a while due to some computer problemas. However, we got a new computer last night. Hooray! I will write a new post tomorrow.

Chaos

After a weekend away in McCleary, celebrating an early Thanksgiving with Brian's family, we got home early evening. We were pretty tired, I was personally exhausted after a few days with minimal sleep, so we went to bed early. At 1:30am we were awakened to the fire alarms, we have THREE in our little apartment,  blaring in our apartment. The siren was piercing, deafening, almost crippling and just outrageously loud. It wasn't just our alarms going off, it was the whole building. Once the siren started up the cat darted off my chest and went into hiding. Honestly, I panicked. My heart was beating a thousand times a minute and all I could think of was to grab my coat, my ID, and try to grab the cat. After Brian and I put on our coats we tried to find Olive. We couldn't find her! We were looking in the same spots over and over yet she was nowhere to be seen. After several minutes of us chaotically scrambling around the apartment trying to at least find her, we had to get out. Meanwhile I could hear our upstairs neighbors running back and forth across their apartment which didn't help my anxiety. Brian grabbed our folders full of our important paperwork and we headed to the stairs. Neighbors we had never seen before were conjugating outside in their robes, sweaters and pjs. Once we were outside there was no sign of a fire so we figured some person had smoke in their apartment and opened the door to the hall to let it out (which the complex warned never to do for this reason!). The whole time we were waiting the siren kept blaring. I just wanted them to at least turn the alarm off because all I could think of was poor Olive in the apartment and I was kicking myself for not staying to look harder and longer for her. It took about 10 minutes for the fire department to show up. Once they were here it took another 5-10 minutes for the alarm to quiet. Finally the sirens quit and everyone decided to wander back to their apartments. When we got back in my adrenaline was just skyrocketing. We both were calling Olive and she came out from under the couch. We had looked there about 5x and didn't see her. Now we know for next time where to look with a flashlight. I am just so thankful there was no real emergency and after this false alarm hopefully I will feel better prepared if this happens again. IF being the keyword. Needless to say I needed a nap! If any of you know me, I cannot live without plenty of sleep. I've tried to, but it's just not me.

Movies

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

We Bought A Zoo

I loved both of these movies. There is nothing better than cheesy 80's movies and heart felt comedies.

Everything is back to normal this week. Brian is feeling better and back at work so it's just miss Olive and I. I actually got my butt into the gym this morning, key word: MORNING. I hope this week goes by quickly because Saturday and Sunday we will be with Brian's parents and family then my parents come for Thanksgiving. Yay!

Friday

It's finally the weekend! This week has felt a tad bit longer than usual, perhaps because my dear husband has been sick for a few days. Whenever we are sick and stuck in our apartment it feels kind of icky and the time goes by about as fast as a snail's pace. But I did manage to make a trip to Goodwill and find a few treasures (according to me of course). I got a few sweaters, 2 books (the first two twilights to complete my collection :)) and two pictures that go together. They are of Monterrey and Golden Gate Park. Success!

Today has been quite eventful so far...took Olive to the vet to get her fluids and nails clipped. Wrangling the cat into her crate is always a cardio session, then found out she needs to visit twice a month for fluids so that should be fun. Once Olive was done with the fluids the poor vet helpers were trying to clip her nails but she decided she was done for the day and I heard her screaming through the door.  When we came home the apartment complex was testing all the fire alarms in the building so we had the siren going off in the apartment intermittently for over an hour.  Where's the wine?? Mom, can it be 5:30 already for our happy hour? Pretty please? :)
